Top 10!

EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART (Bob Catley) (1 week at no. 1)
Feb 20

Hit no. 1 three times within the span of 12 months ("Ill Be Your Fool" hit in
early Dec 2003, "Every Beat of My Heart" did it on Feb 20, 2004 and "It's
Time to Come Together" by Magnum topped the chart on Oct 29, 2004!)

SOMEBODY'S GOTTA PAY THE PRICE (Final Frontier) (4 weeks at no. 1)
Mar 12, 19, 26, Apr 2

Highly anticipated first single from "The Second Wave". Spent almost 2 months
in the Top 10 AFTER hitting no. 1 for four weeks.

HAUNTED (Deep Purple) (1 week at no. 1)
Apr 9

After the first single from "Bananas" went nowhere, Deep Purple's haunting
ballad (featuring backing vocals by Beth Hart) brought them back to the
top of the charts for the first time in over 13 years. The last time they did it
was with 1990's "King of Dreams".

MY BAND (D-12 featuring Eminem) (8 weeks at no. 1)
Apr 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4

First-ever no. 1 for D-12 (who hit the Top 10 twice earlier with "Shit on You"
and "Purple Pills"). 8 weeks at no. 1 puts them among the longest running
no. 1s of all time. Only 10  other songs have spent as long (or longer) at the top:
"Days Like These" (Asia), "A US Customs Coast Guard Dope Dog (Hyper Mix)"
(Parliament, Funkadelic & P-Funk Allstars), "When You Love a Woman"
(Journey), and "Love Changes Everything" (Kevin Chalfant) also spent 8 weeks
a piece at no. 1. "Heaven's On Fire" (Kiss), "Harvest Moon" (Blue Oyster Cult)
and "Without Me" (Eminem) spent 9 weeks at the top, while "Estadium Nacional"
(Magellan) and "When I'm With You" (Sheriff) spent 10 weeks each at the peak.
The longest running number is "If I Were the Wind (And You Were The Rain)" by
Pendragon that spent an unstoppable 11 weeks at no. 1 back in 2001.

DON'T TELL ME (Avril Lavigne) (1 week at no. 1)
June 11

Third no. 1 overall for Avril Lavigne and first from her "Under My Skin" CD.
Song debuted at no. 24 back in February and hit no. 1 on its 16th week on the
Top 40. 6 of those weeks were spent at no. 2.

LOST INSIDE A DREAM (Final Frontier) (1 week at no. 1)
June 18

Third no. 1 for Final Frontier, having hit with "The Last to Know" in 2003 and
"Somebody's Gotta Pay the Price" in the spring.

AVALON (Gary Hughes featuring Danny Vaughn) (1 week at no. 1)
June 25

A song from a late 2003 release called "Once and Future King Part 1". Vaughn's
3rd number one appearance, having hit with "Forever Young"
and "End of the Summer
Days" (both from his Tyketto days of the early 90s).

I'LL LEARN TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU (Hugo) (4 weeks at no. 1)
July 2, 9, 16, 23

No stranger to no. 1 hits, this is the 8th overall for the
Steve Perry-style vocalist (he hit with "I'll Learn To Live Without
You", "This Love Song", "Tell It To My Heart", "Can't Stop Loving You",
"A Tear in L.A." and "We'll Find A Way" as a solo act, and "Why Is My Heart
Feeling Lonely Tonight" and "My Heart Beats For You" with Street Talk).

SEA OF ROSES (Dare) (5 weeks at no. 1)
July 30, Aug 6, 13, 20, 27

Our number one song of the year is Dare's 3rd chart topper overall, having
been to no. 1 with "Silent Thunder" and "Falling". This mid-tempo masterpiece
spent 13 weeks on the Top 40.

FAITHFUL HEART (Final Frontier) (1 week at no. 1)
Sept 3

Aside from Eminem (who hit no. 1 with "My Band" , "Just Lose It" and "Encore"),
only one other act placed three songs at the top of the charts in 2004: Final
Frontier! This is the third of the three, and one of five Top 40 hits their"Second
Wave" produced.

EVEN THE GHOSTS CRY (Ten) (1 week at no. 1)
Sept 10

What would a year be without a number one from Ten? They've hit the Top 10
every year without fail since 1997, and since 2002, managed to hit the top
spot each year. In 2002, "Who Do You Want to Love" hit no. 1, in
2003, it was "Far Beyond The World" that did it, and "Even the Ghosts Cry" was
their 2004 chart-topper.

MY HAPPY ENDING (Avril Lavigne) (1 week at no. 1)
Sept 17

No female artist has more no. 1 hits than Avril. This 4th no. 1 broke her own record
for most no. 1 hits by a female act. Her previous no. 1s include "Complicated",
"Sk8ter Boi" and "Don't Tell Me". "My Happy Ending" had an almost endless
run on the Top 40, spending 22 weeks there.

1985 (Bowling For Soup) (3 weeks at no. 1)
Sept 24, Oct 1, 8

First-ever chart appearance by Bowling For Soup hit a strike!

WHAT ABOUT LOVE (Asia) (2 weeks at no. 1)
Oct 15, 22

Adding to their impressive list of no. 1 hits (which include "Heat of the
Moment", "Only Time Will Tell", "Don't Cry", "Days Like These", "Kari-Anne",
"Who Will Stop the Rain", "Lay Down Your Arms", "Someday", "Anytime",
"Heaven" and "Arena"), Asia are second only to Pendragon for most no. 1
hits of all time. Their 12th, "What About Love", puts them only 4 back from
Pendragon, who have 16 no. 1 hits to their credit.

IT'S TIME TO COME TOGETHER (Magnum) (1 week at no. 1)
Oct 29

Veteran band returned to no. 1 for their first visit since "You're the One"
peaked at the top back in 1993!

JUST LOSE IT (Eminem) (1 week at no. 1)
Nov 5

A new Eminem single is pretty much a guaranteed no. 1 single. "Just Lose It"
makes 5 for him now ("My Name Is", "The Real Slim Shady", "Without Me"
and "Cleaning Out My Closet" all hit the top) and, if you count D12, this is
his 6th time at no. 1 on the Top 40 Favorites Chart.

PARTY FOR TWO (Shania Twain with Mark McGrath) (2 weeks at no. 1)
Nov 12, 19

Not only was Shania able to knock red-hot Eminem out of no. 1, she did it
for two weeks (with a little help from Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath). This
eclipsed her "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" for longest time spent at no. 1 for
Shania, and it's her second no. 1 overall.

SILENT HILLS (Dare) (1 week at no. 1)
Nov 26

Following the success of "Sea of Roses", here's Dare and their fourth no. 1 hit
overall.

ENCORE (Eminem feat. Dr. Dre and 50 Cent) (3 weeks at no. 1 so far)
Dec 3, 10, 24

This song literally shot to no. 1! "Encore" was the year's highest Top 40 debut
(starting out at no. 13), then it jumped to no. 2 before easily capturing no. 1.
Because it is still atop the chart, it will be counted in 2005's year-end survey.

WISH I HAD AN ANGEL (Nightwish) (1 week at no. 1)
Dec 17

Their first hit ("Nemo") barely dented the Top 20, back in early September.
The follow-up cracked the Top 20 on its second week and eventually made it
all the way to the top. A breakthrough year for this highly-successful European
act, as well as the genre of music they play.

To qualify for this year-end chart, songs and albums must have peaked on the Top 40 Favorites Chart between Dec 19, 2003 and Dec 17, 2004. Any songs or albums still moving up on the charts on or after the Dec 17, 2004 cut-off date will be charted on 2005's year-end survey.
